Brian Chunn

Job: Head Lad

BRIAN has more experience in racing than most people, having worked for several top yards and looked after many classy racehorses. Based in Lambourn early on in his career, he was employed by Patrick Haslam, Duncan Sassee and then Barry Hills where he spent nine years. Brian wanted to expand his horizons and, so, spent time in Australia, working for Colin Hayes. After that, he returned to Hills’ Lambourn yard – which is where he met Peter Chapple-Hyam. When Peter set up at Manton, Brian became his second head lad – a role he also went on to fulfil for John Gosden. He has worked closely with such horses as Rodrigo Di Triano and Oasis Dream. When Peter came back to British racing, Brian was one of the first men he recruited for his Newmarket venture.
